The other day, I went to a workshop and ask abt my brakes. I feel tat my brakes takes a longer braking distance than my old car. not really comfy... was told to change to a steel hose... wat say u? or change the brake pads? And the regarding the exos, was told by the mechanic tat after changing, needs to tune the car... 1.4k to tune...
wat u tink of gt wing?

You driving Sti with Brembo Brakes? I got same problem, but i think it got to do with the brakepad...

aye... I was also on 4P2P WRX brakes when I upgraded to steel brake hoses. Didn't feel a diff... But I guess who are more "sensitive", even they say that the benefit is more so that there is less "squishy" feeling. Braking distance does not improve much.
Theoretically, steel braided brake hoses are indeed supposed to improve on braking distance because these hoses don't expand when you e-brake. The stock brake hoses are rubber. That's the reason why manufacturers claim that braking distance is reduced. However, the stock brake hoses actually don't expand under normal circumstances. Usually unless your on the track and keep doing a lot of hard braking, the brake fluid (and hose) gets real hot, and that's when your stock brake hoses may expand more.
So in summary, steel-braided brake hoses should be able to reduce braking distance but usually only on track. Changing brake pads would have a much greater effect. Or you could also change to slotted/cross-drilled rotors, or maybe a BBK (big brake kit)
Yo bro tks a million man!!!

I don't agree with your mechanic. I don't think it's critical to tune your car just cos you changed your exhaust. Basically an aftermarket exhaust has better flow than your stock exhaust. Your ECU needs to know that it can burn more fuel than it could previously. So it's true that it would be good, but I don't think it's critical.
Tuning would be necessary if you have a turbo upgrade or changed your fuel injectors. In any case, tuning is not cheap and takes quite some time to complete. I'd rather complete any modifications you plan for before going for tuning as the last step
But whether they're LTA-friendly is highly questionable. Some say they are not because in the LTA site it is specified that aftermarket parts cannot have sharp edges. The sides of most GT wings have flat (and sharp) plates. In any case, a GT Wing can be seen from far and the white ants can smell you from far away
In getting a GT Wing, you will want to note where the holes are in order to install the wing. If you're on a high mount spoiler, chances are that you will have to seal up the existing holes on your boot and drill new ones. It is actually the fishtail spoiler holes that can be reused for GT Wings. The following is a pic of the S202 GT Wing which can be installed into the holes used for fishtail spoilers.
yo bro tks for the info...
my initial plan is to change the brake pads but 2 different mechanics suggested upgrading to steel brake hoses. i made an appointment to change the brake hose in anoyher 10 hours... guess i will hold back 1st ba... he quoted me $300... is it reasonable anyway? so should i change the bake pads, rotors or bbk? i need something cheap yet effective... hehe... quite challenging... u noe the cost of those items and wat brand is trusty? or should i stick to changing the steel hose? i travel to m'sia quite often so i do nid trusty and efficient brakes...
regarding the exos, u said tat tuning is unnessary so guess i will change juz the exos oly 1st... 2nd hand fujisutbo gng for $600-$700 is it ok?
My fren brought in sum gt wings but dun reali like it... i did not take the stock spoiler so no holes on the boot yet...

From my experience, your braking distance won't improve much by changing your brake hose. $300 is about there. I changed mine for $280.
Whether to change pads, rotors or BBK is really up to your budget, bro. If you want cheap yet effective, I suggest to change the pads and see how (cheapest option). For WRX 4/2 pots, I've heard either Ferodo DS2500 or Hawk are good.

gratefully....
Yeah... $600-$700 should be OK for 2nd hand FGK, cos new is about $1,400. But do check whether it's been decat (removed catalytic converter) or operated (inside of muffler is sliced open). These are not LTA-friendly
Some reviews from a friend of mine on LTA-compliant exhausts:
1) Apexi Hybrid Evolution Megaphone axle back-Good power both low and high end but sounds terrible....
2) FGK Super Legalis R cat back- Good power all round especially at the higher end, sounds good, deep and solid roar when on boost
3) Apexi N1 Evolution cat back- Good low end but feels a bit congested above 5K rpm, i love this exhuast muffler, gives a throaty roar with a raspy edge as well....raw and hollow just like a N1 muffler shd sound like...
4) HKS Silent Hi Power cat back- Good power all round as well feels a lot like FGK, sounds a bit too deep and rumbly for my liking
It's generally agreed that BOV do not work well with WRXes. WRX come stock with BPV (Bypass Valve) which feeds the excess pressure back into the turbo rather than let go into the air (which a BOV does). Many who have tried BOVs get the CEL (Check Engine Light) coming on as the ECU is unable to react to the sudden change (loss) of pressure. But there are few who change to an aftermarket BPV cos they don't get the "sexy" sound of the air escaping, which is much louder with BOVs. Another argument is that BPV makes use of the built-up pressure (by feeding back into the turbo) rather than letting go into the atmosphere. So when you hear the "lao hong" sound, you are actually losing power
I think 6K @ 180km/h is about right, althought it should be slightly lower...
Hi Bro,
Wonder is there any capture audio sound for the above exhaust so that we can hear and choose before we buy it?
